Professor & Head of Accounting

Ahmed is a Professor in the Department of Accountancy. In 2008, he was appointed as Head of Accounting in the department. He has broad responsibilities relating to teaching and learning, scholarly research and leadership.

His responsibilities relating to teaching and learning include teaching Advanced Financial Accounting to post-graduate students studying towards the chartered accountancy qualification, developing financial accounting/IFRS material and coordinating modules and programs.

His responsibilities relating to scholarly research include supervision, conference proceedings and papers delivered, accredited publications (journals and books), IFRS development, participation in meetings of national standard setting bodies, involvement in sponsored research projects, and involvement in professional work projects which are aimed at the development of the profession in terms of practice, education and policy (i.e., Johannesburg Stock Exchange, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, South African Institute of Chartered Accountants, World Bank).

His responsibilities relating to leadership include managing a team of 27 professional staff members and 7 academic trainees, conducting external moderation for examinations and performing compliance reviews and accreditation visits.
