Why it matters:
Eradicating all forms of poverty is one of the greatest challenges the world faces. Current figures put the number of people living in extreme poverty around 836 million with more than 1 in 5 people living on less than the target figure of US$1.25 per day. Yet, poverty is more than the lack of income or resources. Those who live in poverty also lack basic services such as healthcare, security, and education and suffer from hunger, social discrimination, and are dismissed when it comes to decision-making.
