The Targets
Why it matters:
Universal health coverage includes providing access to essential medicines and vaccines to all, however this goal specifically focuses on ending preventable deaths of newborns and children under 5 (currently 6 million children die each year before reaching their fifth birthday), reducing maternal mortality rates to less than 70 deaths per 100,000 live births and to end epidemics such as AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and water-borne diseases.
