Middelvlei Momberg Pinotage
With international pinotage day on 10 October, it is fitting to celebrate Middelvlei’s 100 years in the capable hands of the Momberg family who have paved the way as one of the leading pinotage producers in the country.
This exceptional wine honours the pinotage varietal – the first wine ever bottled under the Middelvlei label and which holds a special place in their hearts. Bearing the family name, this wine reflects the premium quality and excellence Middelvlei has come to be known for.
The grapes for this wine were sourced from vineyards that were carefully pruned to ensure a low yield and concentrated fruit and were picked early morning. 80% new oak barrels were used in the maturation process, of which 70% was American oak and the balance French oak. In order to preserve the fruit, barrels with a light toast level was used. The wine was kept in these barrels for 12 months before bottling, and then bottle aged for 18 months before being released.
This is a limited-edition commemorative wine and is only produced as a single vintage. It is presented in a sleek black casing to accent its luxury and makes an ideal collector’s item or a cherished gift. It is harmoniously oaked with an enticing mouthfeel and fruitiness.
Flavours of mulberries, raspberries and creamy vanilla are backed by a velvet smooth finish. It is a superbly balanced wine with a delightful aftertaste.
Available only from the farm at R600.
