In a 2016 report on sustainability,1 corporates were evaluated through a new lens and it was emphasised that ‘business cannot succeed in a society that fails’. This implies that business success is not possible if the societies in which businesses are situated are not functioning. Successful business leaders recognise the need to focus on sustained value creation. Now more than ever, this requires a broader view of growth than just increased output and short-term financial returns, as significant mega-trends are putting the resilience, sustainability and impact of organisations’ strategies and business models to the test. Corporates are a visible part of society and as such have a responsibility to contribute to it.
