Are you building a legacy business?
All of us want to be remembered for something great one day when we pass on and also make sure that those we leave behind are well looked after. Now, that is doing something bigger than yourself. But do you have the same outlook when you build your business or go to work every day?
When we start having this burning desire to build a legacy business where lives and generations are being impacted long after we are gone, our everyday outlook and motivation start looking a bit different.
You start having a long-term perspective about everything you do, from putting structures in place so that the business can function without you to building a relationship with every single employee. At the end of the day, leadership is more important than profit and wages.
When we start investing in our employees to create a better future for them, we are not only changing their lives but also their family’s lives and most likely the lives of a generation to come. The amazing thing is the return on investment in your business when an employee starts seeing the changes in their lives and their loved ones. You will get back a happier, more productive, more skilled, and more loyal employee than ever before, and with a better attitude. A quality employee will attract more of the same to your business. The net effect on your bottom line will be seen quickly but the impact on the lives of those in your business and the generations to come will be immeasurable and something no money can buy.
Next, we need to ask ourselves, What impact do we have in our community? Yes, as a business we are building the local economy through our businesses but what do we give without expecting a return? You are planted in your area for a reason. We are called to make a difference. When businesses start giving back to their local community, we start to uplift the town and also enable businesses to all flourish even 50 years from now. When we do not give back our community might move backwards, and our businesses might not even exist 50 years from now. We should invest now so that our children’s children can have a place where they can flourish and make a difference.
I want to encourage you to start building a culture in your workplace or business of investing for the long term. The best is yet to come, but it starts with us. Start dreaming about a better future for our children, employees and communities.
Believe me when I say the results will be amazing. You and your business will flourish like never before. Be the leader you are called to be. A difference maker.
