As we step into the 30th year of democracy for South Africa we can reflect and celebrate as a nation how far we’ve come. We are a resilient nation, so let us keep our eye fixed on the future and keep moving forward.
In this issue, we interview Ayanda Mafuleka, CEO of FASSET, which has played a vital role in partnering with SAICA to support the Thuthuka Bursary Fund. She speaks openly about the leadership crisis in the country and declares that as a country we are going through a leadership deficit where ethical leaders seem to be far and few between. She says: ‘South Africa is blessed with economic resources but we have a deficit of leadership. We are going through a phase where the public sector and even the private sector is grappling with widespread corruption and unethical behaviours and we seem to not putting the people and service delivery first.’
With this in mind, and on a more positive note. The last five years have seen a positive improvement within the audit profession when it comes to audit failures. The month of May will be yet another significant moment for South Africa with the elections taking place on 29 May. Every vote does count. so let’s encourage everyone we know to vote and let their voice be heard. Let’s vote for the leaders who we can trust to shape South Africa into a better place for everyone. If we don’t vote, we have no right to complain.
Mothers play a significant role in society and in shaping the future of young upcoming leaders. To celebrate Mother’s Day that is just around the corner, we interviewed a few moms about their journey of motherhood.
Let us be reminded we cannot achieve great things alone, and that every person in our country has unique giftings that can add value. Where we can, let us support and uplift one another. Let us be the change we want to see.
