The South African Mathematics Foundation (SAMF) is proud to announce SAICA as the new sponsor of the South African Mathematics Challenge (SAMC). The national competition, reaching approximately 80 000 Grade 4 to 7 learners annually, plays a vital role in nurturing a love for mathematics at
primary school level.
FOR MORE THAN TWO DECADES, the SAMC has introduced thousands of learners across the country to problem-solving, logical thinking, and teamwork through fun and challenging questions. With SAICA’s sponsorship, the competition will continue to grow, reaching more schools and creating opportunities for learners to develop essential skills that will support their future studies and careers.
Professor Seithuti Moshokoa, Executive Director of SAMF, welcomed the partnership: ‘Mathematics is a gateway to countless opportunities. By sparking curiosity and confidence in children from a young age, we help lay the foundation for future success. We are delighted that SAICA is joining us in this journey to empower learners and encourage excellence.’
The top-performing learners and schools were honoured at the SAMF’s annual award ceremony on 25 October, where they received recognition of their outstanding achievements.
Looking ahead, registration for the 2026 South African Mathematics Challenge will open in January 2026, inviting more learners and schools to take part in this exciting journey of mathematical discovery.
SAICA, as the leading professional body for chartered accountants in South Africa, shares SAMF’s vision of investing in education, from cradle to career, to create a better future by arming learners with problem solving skills. Their support highlights the importance of building strong mathematical foundations, which are essential not only for careers in finance but across a wide range of industries.
Gugu Makhanya, Head of Thuthuka, said: ‘Our profession is built on critical thinking, problem-solving, and ethical leadership − skills that start with a solid grounding in mathematics. Influence beyond the profession is paramount to building a sustainable future, partnering with SAMF allows us to support young learners in developing these abilities while inspiring them to see the exciting possibilities mathematics can open up.’
With SAICA’s support, SAMF is confident that the South African Mathematics Challenge will continue to ignite a passion for mathematics in classrooms across South Africa.
